Hi all..

We are looking to visit CA this summer, and so far, the hotel I like the best is the Fairmont..the reviews seem great and I love that it is right on the beach, practically.

We are looking for a place that is very walkable..not sure if we will be renting a car nor not, so if we stay at the Fairmont, is it safe to say we can walk to pretty much everything? It looks like the Pier, restaurants, beach is all in walking distance...how is the area around the hotel?

Also, is Venice Beach in walking distance?

Appreciate any advice/info. Can't wait to visit

Yes, you can walk to many places in Santa Monica from that hotel. Venice Beach is a few miles to the south though. If you want to go there in the daytime, I would recommend you rent a few bikes and bike there, very easy ride. At night, just take a cab there.

Oh great-thanks for the info! I thought it was closer.

I've heard the Fairmont is very nice (and expensive). You might want to check out Loews or Casa Del Mar which are walking distance to 3rd St and Main St. in Santa Monica. I don't think you can pick a hotel in between Santa Monica and Venice and still be walking distance to both places.

I'd look for one closer to Venice beach. More active down there

I love the Fairmont, it is gorgeous. Great location, it's on Wilshire and Ocean really close to 3rd St Promenade and the restaurants on Ocean Ave and right across the street from Palisades Park which is beautiful and a great spot for picture taking. Their restaurant, "FIG" is excellent and highly rated.

Thanks so much, everyone, for all the input. I am so looking forward to visiting, and the reviews for the Fairmont have us pretty set on staying there...love the location.
