How long does it take to get from LAX to the Green line station serving the airport? And how long does it take from that station to downtown Los Angeles via the Expo line? (I guess that's the only line that connects)

Has anyone here ever done that route?

Flyaway Bus from LAX straight to Union Station in Downtown LA. $8.

Is that going to be better than the trains?

It's easier. I am guessing LAX -> shuttle -> Green Line -> Blue Line would take you more than a hour due to multiple transfers.

FlyAway Buses use freeway carpool lanes, which should take about 30-45 mins.

I've heard that the shuttle service is worth the price in terms of the "experience" factor. I normally dont mind taking the metro but would find it bothersome to be in this environment after a flight and having alot of stuff to carry. The blue line traverse the worst parts of LA.

If you wanted to take the metro (and you don't! use Flyaway).

1. Wait under the blue sign for the "G" Greenline shuttle (avg wait about 10 minutes usually)
2. A short drive to the Green line stop (another 10 minutes)
3. It dumps you at the Green line stop (another avg 10 minute wait for a train)
4. Green line to the Blue line. (15 min travel)
5. Another wait at what is one of the most unpleasant stops in the city. (10 min wait)
6. Then the Blue line into downtown. (35 min)

It is stupid and painful. It *might* be worth it if the Green line actually came to the airport, but, it doesn't.

The Flyway bus is a good way to go, soviet. It leaves every 30 minutes and gets to the location quickly for a low price. It's true what they said about the trains. You would have to board a bus to get to the "Aviation" platform of the Green line (metro does not directly connect to LAX) and then transfer to the Blue Line to get to DTLA. They do get crowded and go through some gnarly parts of the city.

Yes. It's pretty much the only way to go for fast transit out of LAX.

I agree that LAX FlyAway is by far the most convenient way to travel between LAX and Union Station. It's fast, cheap and a single seat trip.

The only exception would be dependent on where in DTLA the OP is going to. If the Blue or Expo line is terminating close to his/her final destination, the Metro method could be cheaper since the whole trip could be accomplished with a $5 All Day pass + $1 for the TAP card. Otherwise it'll be $8 for FlyAway plus cost of transportation out of Union Station.
