Long time lurker here. Thought I would ask if anyone here lives at the Ritz downtown or knows someone who does and would be willing to share their experience. There isn't a lot of information to be found online from owners or renters.

I've toured the building and a number of units that would work with some light remodeling/customization.

I don't necessarily need to be downtown but like the hotel amenities. Are there any other hotel/condos in Los Angeles other than The Montage BH? I can't quite afford that building

Some information about me: 30yr old entrepreneur, single, no children, work from home as often as I like but do have employees in an office on the westside that I meet with a couple of times per week.

Thanks in advance!

I don't live there, but I've shown properties there before. Very nice building with excellent amenities. The W Hollywood is another hotel/condo in LA that I know of. Prices range from $535K-2.9M right now. Again, great amenities and a very nice building.

Hey thanks. If you had to choose between the two which would you choose? I lean towards the Ritz because of the quality of their amenities. The location leaves me less than excited.

It would be hard for me to choose, but I do think the amenities are comparable--though the Ritz feels a bit more grand overall. The corner units that are up for sale at the Ritz have incredible views, but I like the finishes some of the similarly/lower priced units at the W better. Finishes can be updated, however, and location cannot. Personally, I think downtown is an exciting place to be right now. I still don't know which I'd choose though.

Well thanks for the insight. I toured the J corner unit at the Ritz and wow. It has expansive views of the westside and then city views from the second bedroom. Pretty amazing. I thought about possibly tearing down the wall that separates the living room from the second bedroom so you'd get city views and westside views all in one room. I wasn't very impressed with the kitchen finishes here or the bathrooms. Also the lack of outdoor space isn't ideal. They also tout access to the sports venue and I couldn't care less about basketball

After reading your previous message I spent an hour on the W website and it does look very interesting. I like that there's a dog walk, has huge balconies, and it has the rooftop park etc. The finishes do look very nice. When I saw online tours of them a while back it wasn't as impressive but looks like they changed marketing strategy and got designers to do the penthouses each in a unique style. I think I'll give the W a look-see. I'm not all that fond of the Hollywood tourist trap either.

Both of these locations are problematic but the W seems less expensive and it is located closer to my office. I think I'll tour both buildings and then stay at each of them for a week so I can immerse myself in the locations a bit as it looks like these two buildings are my only option for a hotel/condo

Yeah, both locations definitely have their pluses and minuses. As far as hotel/condos go, these will probably be your best bet. I think it's definitely worth taking a look at the W. The cool thing about the hotel/condo situation is the ability to actually try it before you buy it. If you need help with access to the units for sale, let me know. I'm always around the area.

A friend of mine lives in the Ritz Carlton in Mexico City on Reforma, the experience is definitely first class.

The standards are much higher in Mexico than the USA though, pretty sure the LA version is still fairly decent.
