Moving to Pasadena in a few months from Chicago. I'm a huge swimmer and am interested in the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center—can anyone give me an insider's perspective on it (how crowded is lap swimming, state of facilities, etc.)?

Also curious about walking from Pasadena (we'll be living close-ish to the Old Pasadena area probably) to the Aquatic Center—I don't mind walking a good distance and it looks like there are trails in the park, but I just wonder if it's safe to do so.

Thanks!

Depending on what route you take it should be safe. I used to work in Old Town and live on the other side of the Rose Bowl. A few nights I would have a bit too much to drink so I would just walk home. Then of course walk back to work the next day. Never had any issues.

If you are walking during the day you shouldn't have any issues either.

I've never once felt in danger walking around Pasadena. And I've apparently walked around some of the "bad" parts north of the 210 late at night (not realizing they are considered bad - more like low-income).

Thanks for the info! I'm used to living in places where parks are sketchy so my first instinct is to be a little concerned.

cross over 210/134 on Orange Grove.
Route 1: Head down Holly, take first left, loop around to North Arroyo Blvd.
Route 2: Head down Holly, just past the housing, there's a trailhead to your right, do some offroading down to the parking lot
Route 3: Continue down Orange Grove, take left on Rosemont (beautiful street), left on Seco, left on N Arroyo. (longest)

Any route very safe during daylight. At night, routes 1&2 go through some pretty dark sections near the Arroyo. There are the *occasional* homeless in the area under the bridge, so I might opt for route 1 at night.

Safe during the day, no issues. At night, the Rose Bowl area is dark (still safe, but be careful).

I think you always need to be on your guard when you walk anywhere at night, regardless of neighborhood. I live right my the Rose Bowl and it is common to see residents walking all hours of the day.
