I'm in my mid 20s and looking to move out to the la area around the first of the year or spring. The areas that I've looked into are Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. Is it possible to live in or near these areas without paying a ton of money? I will be looking to start a career so money is definitely tight. Are there any other areas by the beach or inland that would be a nice place to live thats pretty close to la? I've thought of Santa Monica but know prices are through the roof. Please don't tell me west hollywood.

If you're single, white and conservative, Hermosa and Manhattan are the places for you. Try to find a roommate situation. If you can share a place with two or three people you'll be fine.

A huge number of people share houses or apartments with roommates. It's actually a good way to meet other singles and hook into the subcultures at the beach cities. I don't agree that you have to be white or conservative. All kinds of people live at the beach.

Oh, and add Redondo Beach and Torrance to your list of places to consider. You can start off renting there and then move closer to the beach when you get more money. Seriously, I would suggest going the roommate route. Roommates are very mucha way of life there, not something that will be looked down upon.
