OC and Riverside Counties allow you to search property records a bit better than the LA County Recorder's online site.

I'm looking at a specific property to get its details as it is in "pre-foreclosure"...I have the address but not the official "description" i.e. its cataloging number.

I'd prefer to get the info online for free or cheap, even using the recorder's online site via Lexis/Nexis but since I only have the address and not the party names, how can I get the details without having to go to realtytrac or similar site?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think La county allows anyone to get property info like they did in the past.
To much identy theft these days, so they stopped allowing you to get the info online.
Bob.

Why do other counties allow it?

Well that stinks. I know I used to be able to get such info online without having to subscribe to a service like realtytrac.

Oh well, gotta dig a bit further...I'm not interested in stealing anyone's identity, I just want to know who holds the loan on a couple of distressed properties...

If you go to the LA county web site and click on the registra's link, it explains why they no longer allow online searches.
Bob.

I don't know about other counties in California, but I know in Florida many (if not all) countries have FULL information of home/property ownership online. It's kind of disconcerting, if you ask me...
