Prison politics does play important roles in the streets. It boils down to whos making noise in someone elses back yard. Money and narcotics also follows.
Many factors play when people ask "whos running what" or "whos the baddes" etc... hell you could be off having a bad day because couple taggers mean mug'n ya haha...
Statistics really don't mean anything because not ever "hood" is packed into one area. It all depends on whos beef'n with who

Then, bulldoze the run down gang infested areas and redevelop it into a CRA affordable housing area, where the good folks (most of whom lived there previously) can resume life peacefully.

as long as the Eigth Amendment is in place... your fantasies will never come true.

As far as gangs in LA go. it's hardly been an issue for me. You think about them, notice them from time to time and that's about it. I don't spend much time in "their" areas and keep to myself and not start trouble. Other than their annoying graffitti they don't exist in my reality. I wouldn't mess with them though.

I feel so much safer walking in a Black area than a Mexican area.

Call me racist, but its the truth!
While I don't think I'm racist, I admit that I would be uncomfortable living or traveling through Latino areas. I wouldn't even venture through East LA.
