As a landlord, it's required on all our applications. Why? Because it helps paint a picture of the applicant. Do I care what make, year or model? Not really, but below is a typical applicant for a single family home (2200 sq ft in a very nice area:

Applicant(s) earning $100K+/yr a year, virtually no savings, at least two new cars with 50k+ owed on them, a recent bankruptcy (or more), a dozen credit cards and student loans for $150k+, a handful of recent debt collections, plus some delinquent revolving accounts and large balances ($20-50K on various credit cards). No evictions and usually have a dog. Credit scores in ranging from none to about 700....

We really just want to predict that the tenant can pay on time, in full, and will not trash the place. Just be honest in your application, and in life (think of the golden rule), and you should be fine.

You can normally tell when things do not make sense on an application when you look at all the documents and make the reference calls, etc.

For a house, maybe...? No one in an apartment would care about something so meaningless!

The only thing that concerns me about tenant's vehicles is whether they are leaking any fluids that would mess up the driveways and parking areas.
If they leak, the tenant is asked to remove the vehicle from the property until the problem is fixed, and I have this clause in all my rental agreements.

Bob.

Since almost 75% percent of the new cars sold in California were imports including 9 of the 10 best-selling vehicles (Ford's F-150 was sixth), your landlord probably won't give a hoot.

There's the winning answer! That is exactly it.

Age is not so much a factor: I got a pristine 1992 Fleetwood Brougham, and it lets me gat away with a lot up on SFV.
