North Hollywood is actually part of LA City, just not downtown LA.

People also need to understand that times are changing. Clear your mind of previous thoughts about downtown. It is the soon to be hip place in LA. It is a great area to live in...if you can afford it. Any area that is expensive is nice. Some lofts begin at over 1 mil. There are tons of new condo projects going up, the main one being Park Fifth which will be second tallest building in the west after Library Tower and tallest residential building west of Chicago. The only bad part is Skid Row, which isn't the best area but not the worst. It's mostly just poor, dirty, and smelly. I'm pretty sure there isn't an outrageous amount of crime there. Not saying that as a fact, I just think so.

I love downtown LA. It has a lot of vibrancy now that it didn't have 20 years ago. Everytime I go to downtown and start walking around, I see things that I never noticed before.

You really need to check it out before deciding where to live.

TO be honest, I had him confused with 'adviceseeker', but, pretty much, it's all the same...

JACKSPARROW, What IS your problem? I'm seeking advice.

I will begin a new job there next month and I'm considering renting a loft or condo there too. There are a lot of affluent, hip, urban, professional types downtown, both young and more mature in years. The loft buildings are particularly attrative to artists. I visited the Reserve Lofts http://reservelofts.com/ on Sat. and will be touring Metro 417 http://www.metro417.com/templates/te...asp?w=metro417 later this week. There are also cool apartments like Pegasus http://www.pegasusapartments.com/ to choose from too. Here's a list of resources on downtown:

A lot will depend on your budget, but basically the areas that are most popular among artists are downtown, Echo Park, Silverlake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, Miracle Mile/Fairfax District, Venice and Santa Monica. North Hollywood also has some appeal for artists on a budget.
thanks for the links, have you looked at http://www.thedowntownmls.com/
or http://www.highrises.com/city/los-angeles/
its got some pretty cool places.

I was looking for an interesting alternative to venice, and I think Downtown (or at least certain areas) are worth a look. Personally, with LALive and all that is being built downtown, I think it's a pretty good investment too.

by the way, can anyone enlighten me as to what trolling is?
thanks

trolling is coming to a forum you don't belong in and start making negative posts about that city. for example, I don't like Chicago, but I don't go over there and make fun of the city. some people from the world come to the LA forum just to say something bad. thats trolling.

I had not seen those web sites before, but there are so many with good information on the downtown loft and apartment scene.

How did you know trolling was bad if you didn't know what trolling was?

that's what i thought, more or less, but the term seems to be applied pretty subjectively around here. i was even called a troll when i first started posting here, and i certainly don't bash LA for the sake of bashing it. i will tell the truth about the parts that aren't so wonderful, because this forum is of no use to anyone if it's treated like a fan-site for los angeles. does that make me a troll too?
