I'm posting this for my brother, he works in downtown Los Angeles and looking to find an apartment. He is looking for a max of around 20 mins commute in Metro rail.

What are the desirable neighborhoods for these criteria? How is North Hollywood? Does it have good apartments?

Also appreciate inputs for Glendale and Alhambra areas.
Can you guys suggest good apartment communities in these areas or any other good neighborhoods.

Thanks.

South Pasadena would be a great choice. It's safe, has a Metro Rail Station (Mission Station), but I don't know the exact commute time on the Metro Rail to Downtown LA.

Thanks. will look further in South Pasadena area. Is there any specific apartment communities that are good?

He will be sharing the apartment with his roommate, and both are from India, so communities with Indians is a plus, not a requirement though.

He is looking for safe neighborhood, metro rail accessible, commutable to downtown in 20 mins (by metro), max of 1500/mo. for a 1 BR.

Looking forward for more inputs as he is new and doesn't know about LA neighborhoods. Thanks.

Universal City near Universal City Station. That or just live downtown. That would be my rec for a LA newbie who needs Metro Rail access and safe area. Indian communities are farther out I think.

Yeah Universal would be a good option. Hollywood around Highland. Or East Hollywood around Western. Both throw you right on the red line and he would be able to find a one bedroom for 1500 a month easy in those areas. Living in DT is meh unless you can afford a nicer area.
