Dogs in the Rain (best, tree, grass)

does anyone else notice that their dog won't go out in the rain? my dog definitely won't go out if it's actively raining and he'll tiptoe around refusing to walk on the grass.

i guess no one else's dog wants to go out in the rain either. i've only seen two people walking dogs today. both dogs had on rain slickers and little rain boots.

i know there's a pet forum, but dogs that hate the rain as much as their owners seems to be an LA thing.

It works best to tie them to a tree when it is raining, For an hour or so.

I highly dispute the above post. Dogs die of pneumonia just like people do.

A better way to desensitize L.A.'s rain-challenged dogs is to make sure that you play with them in the rain before you walk. Yes, that means you have to go out there too, but that's what's going to encourage them. I just got back from walking my dogs in the rain, albeit a shorter route.

that's so funny.. i was reading the advice, then my initial thought was "but then i'll get wet!"

i tried to take him out but when i opened the door he just turned back around and sat on the couch. i dragged him out and the rain hitting his skin was like acid being thrown at him or something. he wouldn't walk, like he just stood there all tense with his tail tucked between his legs and flinching each time a rain drop hit him. it's almost like he's afraid of rain or something.

and this is a 100# german rottweiler. i can't really force him to go outside if he doesn't want to. but he hasn't been out since it started raining. he's just holding it.

i don't forsee him going out in the rain let alone playing in it, but if i get out there and bundle up then maybe he will relax.

Meh. Dogs are animals. Just leave them out in the rain. That's what I'd do. they'll get over it (and be happy to see you when you let them in.)

i can't just leave my dog out in the rain. i'll just get him a rain slicker and call it a day.

Wow. I hope you 2 dont have any dogs.

One of my dogs hates to go out in the rain too. I usually have to walk her a little longer until she finds a spot, usually under a tree, I guess the grass is a little less wet that way.
