Default should i buy a house in glassell park??

i am a single african-american woman and i have found a house that i am very interested in purchasing on kinney circle in glassell park, however, after reading about AVE. gangs targeting african-americans randomly, i'm wondering whether or not i should even be entertaining living in glassell park at all. can someone tell me if it's a bad idea? are there other african-americans in the area? i have two college kids away at school, but they come home often. would they be targeted? how bad is the gang situation, still?

kinney circle is at a higher elevation [isloated?] than the rest of the area. would that make a difference? would really appreciate some feedback, as i am in love with the house.

thanks, anyone!
