I have a friend who is moving to the valley hopefully within 2 weeks. She has been looking in the Van Nuys/Panorama City area but it doesn't seem like that area is very safe. She has since moved her search a little south and found an apt bldg in Valley Village that she really likes.

Its near Magnolia & Laurel Canyon. Is that a safe area for a single white mom & her 5 year old son.

Her son will be going to Pinecrest, so public schools are not an issue. She will be working at Kaiser PC so she wanted to be close by.

Please pass along any info about the area - good or bad. Thanks!

Should be fine. She might try a block south (along riverside dr), but should be fine in that area.

She will be fine in that area. Valley Villiage is Studio City adjacent and is a nice area. Tell her to stay away from Panorama City as it is VERY bad and not safe at all. She should not go north of Magnolia though just to be on the safe side.

Actually, it's safe north of Magnolia too. Chandler Blvd. is fine near Laurel Canyon.
