Turn on the news. UCLA campus is flooding and being partially ruined right now as millions of gallons of water have been wasted due to a water main break and we are in a severe drought. It's been going on for over an hour now. Where is DWP to shut the water off? Great response time idiots

Anyone want to guess how bad this is going to end up being for LA? specifically in terms of.....
* Damage to UCLA, which isn't exactly swimming in money
* Traffic, on account of there's a BIG FREAKIN' HOLE in the middle of Sunset Blvd. that may take weeks to fix
* The drought

You are correct concerning the aged infrastructure here in L.A. The bad part is that the politicians had done very little over the past 50 years.

Working with water pipes is very, very pricey. Even many affluent suburban cities struggle to raise enough money (taxes, rate hikes, etc.) to update their relatively small water systems.

The City of Los Angeles is so expansive that these old water pipes in its massive system aren't really going to be fixed until they break.

John and Ken went really off all afternoon on their recently concluded radio show. Blasted the DWP, city workers, the unions, and the politicians. KABC channel 7 got pranked, so J & K ripped them too. According to them, no one showed up on site to attempt repairs. Traffic in most major streets in the area came to a total stop.

And a name like "Louis Slungpue", that's a red flag right there.

UCLA will be fine. They have insurance.

The water ran for hours...Just think how many people have been cutting their showers by a few minutes each day and not watering their lawns..

I had an oak tree that went brown and the tree guy says..it needs more water, so I've been deep watering everything this past month. Heck with the drought preservation. If California was really serious about water conservation, they would be building reservoirs to catch runoff during the wet years. Its much easier to reduce quality of life than spend money on infrastructure.
