Any list that has the Pyramids Paris, & Venice as the most disappointing travel locations is completely retarded. LA should be honored to be with such illustrious locations.

Part of the problem is that people really don't do research before they travel. Look at TripAdvisor - the questions on the forums are sad - so obvious some people haven't even looked at a map before they started asking questions. Read the reviews - if more people read the reviews of Hollywood they wouldn't be so disappointed (if they bothered to go at all). People hear iconic names - Hollywood, Venice Beach, etc... but they don't really know anything about them. LA has a great deal to offer other than Hollywood (or Disneyland - which way too many people think is right next door to Hollywood). And people who don't drive or won't drive do waste a lot of time on public transit and are pretty limited when it comes to seeing and enjoying a great deal of the area.

People often travel to places expecting it to be like a theme park...service, smiles, and an "experience" of some sort that welcomes them from wherever and invited them into a glamorous life with movie openings, red carpets, and famous people just hanging out for them to chat with like Disney characters.

If LA (or even just Hollywood) were marketed that way I'd sort of get the disappointment but I haven't seen that. Maybe in outside of CA that's what's being pushed?

Lots of Europeans, Asians and Australians come to Los Angeles and just ASSUME there will be mass transit to take them everywhere they need to go.

In this regard, once the Expo Line Phase II opens (late 2015/early 2016) it will be a positive for tourists from these continents...many of the major districts will be accessible via rail (Santa Monica, Downtown LA, Hollywood, Pasadena, and Universal Studios).

L.A is the city that grows on you, it takes time. A short vacation just won't do.

Anyone who thinks L.A. is boring didn't take time to really see what the city is all about. I can understand the frustration with trying to sight see due to no central city really. But boring, how can anyone find L.A a boring place for tourists. Do remember, this is not the opinion of everyone, just one article. Some people look for the negative, others see the positive side. OP doesn't like L.A.

LA might be disappointing to people who arrive expecting a city that automatically caters to tourists like NYC. The thing I found out that was surprising is how much the city of LA doesn't realize its a world renown city. It runs its affairs without that in mind. It knows tourists come and visit Hollywood or Santa Monica but it's not really screaming Welcome to LA. A tourist might feel underwhelmed, as though they landed in just another big city with a few tourist attractions.

The stuff that's not advertised as much is even better than the stuff that is; Getty museum and villa, griffith observatory, griffith park, the hidden beaches, Koreatown BBQ, etc.
