New businesses are ALWAYS good for home values. More businesses = more jobs = more money being pumped into in the area. Plus, the NFL and other large sporting entities love having a shiny new stadiums for their showcase events. Superbowl, College Football National Championship, World Cup Soccer, etc...

Hell, I'd be interested in buying in the area if I knew there was going to be some awesome things happening. Sign me up!

The Rams owner, who ones all the land in Inglewood, has announced his plans to build a stadium there. This is of course a big deal because he actually has the power to move his team from St. Louis to LA. What's everyone's thoughts on this?
I hope they don't build in Inglewood. It's too far out. Would have been better more centrally located like at old Wrigley or Gillmore.

I don't think Dodger Stadium did anything positive to the home values around Chavez Ravine. Neither did the Sports Arena spur development and appreciation in South-Central. I used the Sports Arena as an example rather than the Coliseum as it was a much later development. You have to be insane to think that a house next to a vast parking lot and huge stadium with all the noise and associated traffic as well as tail gating hooligans would boost values.

My comment was in reference to more suburban areas, so it's probably somewhat flawed.

A good case related to suburban areas, which I overlooked, is how the residents around the Rose Bowl are in constant opposition to more events at the Rose Bowl. Probably for the same reasons cited relative to Dodger Stadium and the Sports Arena. It would depress home values.

How much do you think it would ACTUALLY hurt values, vs hurt the feelings of the homeowners, themselves.

I wonder if its a case of perception vs reality.

Where this years Superbowl is at, was NOTHING before the stadium was built (actually, Jobbing.com arena was first, but I digress...) and now there are neighborhoods, restraunts, a mall, a Cabellas, etc. The buildings brought the jobs, which brought the people, which brought the micro-economy in that once desolate area.

It's only 8 games per year and it isn't really that far out. Industry is far out. Inglewood? It's like a trip to the airport.

Unrelated, but one of the reasons I didn't want the stadium in downtown (though I wouldn't necessarily kick it out of bed) is the fact that it will sit empty for most of the year. It's not like Staples Center, which gets constant use. Overall, I'd much rather see the convention center get a proper makeover.

Not saying you're right or wrong, but do you have any examples involving stadiums that were built in the post-Paleozoic era?

They should just remodel the Coliseum.

I'd be all for that idea. The space is there, enough parking for the tailgaters is there, the transit component is there (Expo Line adjacent), and it's close enough to Downtown to really take advantage of the hotels/bars/restaurants. If the Super Bowl was held there, LA Live could be the spot where all the TV networks set up shop for their weeklong hype machine. Many people would stay in Downtown hotels, then take the train to the game.

Once USC completes all phases of its new University Village there will be more than enough nightlife, an additional hotel and restaurants available. USC is taking over the Coliseum as well.
