I am flying my girlfriend and I out to LA from Ohio in about three weeks for her birthday. Basically looking for something romantic for us to do on a saturday night around the LA area. I saw gondola rides near Santa Monica, but I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance

I've been asking about 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica & the Observatory in Griffith Park.

Nothing special about 3rd Street unless you want a panhandler to hit you up for some money.
Try the Getty instead of G Park.

Yeah, Griffith is great for like 20 minutes unless you're seeing a show there. Honestly, anything you can do in Ohio you can do in California for a date night.

While 3rd St Promenade itself may not be ALL that (it's still pretty cool to someone who's never been), there's the entire Downtown Santa Monica area to explore including the pier. So the area as a whole is the worth visiting.

I started to suggest picnic on the beach at sunset, but for some reason it sounded cliche, so I stopped.

If you are suave, you can entertain her anywhere. Focus on that before relying on a venue. Venues are crutches.
