Hi everyone. I recently became aware of asbestos and I am very worry.

I moved into a house (sharing a room) with a family friend 5 years ago and have been living there since. Before I moved in, I remembered the owner removed the popcorn ceiling throughout his entire house which was built in 1949. I didn't think anything of it until recently I spoke with our neightbor who had her popcorn ceiling removed by an abatement company because it was in poor condition and it has asbestos. If our neighbor's house has asbestos, chances are where I'm living now also have it. So the quesiton is, since I moved in shortly after the ceiling was removed and I believed the owner just scraped off the ceiling, could I have been exposed to asbestos all these years? I now have a 1 year old son living with me, is it possible that asbestos fibers are still present by airborn through all these years and my son is inhaling it as well? Would it be possible to develop lung disease by the fibers that were release from the ceiling? My understanding is that it takes years of exposure of inhaling fibers to cause damage, am I in this situation or I have to work in the factory daily and inhaling new fibers that get created by cutting/sanding stuff?

Silica dust. I'm also just came across this as well. I remembered that the owner also cut a countertop section in the house for his bathroom. I do recalled a lot of dust were release and my understanding it may contain silica. Would it be possible to develop lung cancer from this one time exposure or is it even possible that silica dust is still present after all these years both in the air and on the floor of the house? It's hard floor btw.

Thanks for any help.

I think you are probably worrying too much. Maybe vacuum often, get an air purifier, and keep it well ventilated.

honestly i've known a total of ZERO (0) people who've ever been stricken with lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure. You have a greater chance of getting melanoma just by walking outdoors in Disneyland.
