Totally crazy...and Venice is a big attraction for tourists. I guess part of the appeal is the craziness of it..but I can't imagine people wanting to be harassed like that ...not most people's idea of fun.

The problem is that the police can't enforce the laws because of all these moron politicians and judges saying that "the poor homeless have rights too". Insanity!

Just enforcing the laws against panhandling and loitering would help to eliminate most of the problem..but the sad part is that people know where they can take advantage of weak enforcement .

That's a big problem with L.A , they are protecting the 'homeless' more than law abiding working citizens. No common sense. When is enough enough?

I think enough is enough and it's not just a problem in Venice beach, it's a big problem in many parts of L.A
Typical LAPD. That's the sort of thing that makes one appreciate the SMPD, CCPD, BHPD, BPD, etc. none of whom treat the homeless as a protected class and none of whom would react in the same way. Living in the city of L.A. you're essentially on your own.

I wanted to walk a few blocks on Wilshire this evening, but I still have the images of sidewalk excrement in my mind and the thought of walking in proximity to it repulsed me.

If you don't want that sort of thing do not live in the city of L.A. There is no advantage to living in the city of L.A. and many disadvantages.
PART of the reason LAPD does treat "them" as a protected class is because of recent court rulings, including one that allows people to just leave their belongings on the street or sidewalks as storage whilst the homeless individual who owns that stuff goes on sabbatical--you and I would be cited. And the courts have told city of LA and LAPD to leave those NUTTER costumed beggars on Hollywood Blvd. alone, even though they constantly have fist fights with each other and intimidate foreign tourists to PAY them money, which is AGAINST the law as "aggressive" pan-handling. Let's bus all the mental, drug abusing folks to all the homes of judges and advocates and see how long THEY put up with it.

I can only imagine...or maybe I don't want to...lol.

It's a real shame though that they've let things get that out of hand!

Yes, I totally agree. And it's a shame when we're made to look intolerant for not liking what's going on!

In the 11 years I have been regularly visiting Venice Beach, I have not once gave a homeless person any money, or felt threaten to give them money. But it does concern me that a lot of people are feeling uncomfortable and intimidated by aggressive personalities and the increased traffic of homeless people to this otherwise, welcoming and popular area.

When I was checking out some open houses last June, I was surprised to see security guards standing outside of the homes on view. I now can guess as to why they were there - to keep out riff raff and homeless wanderers. Tis a shame.

I bet that 99% of the idiots making these laws don't have to live with their sh*t! ...LITERALLY.

They are likely all living in secluded ,gated type areas .

It's not good when the people making policies are so out of touch and lack common sense.

I've seen it too many times in L.A where a 'homeless' person gets away with things that a non 'homeless' person would never be able to do...just because they are 'homeless'.
