Hi All,

My husband and I have just been offered jobs in your area and are looking for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment or granny unit with a small yard or patio for our small dog. We would like to live near the 405 near Long Beach, my husband's job is in Costa Mesa and mine is in Irvine. So we are considering Rossmore, Westminster, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Anaheim and are open to any other suggestions you think would work.

We are looking to pay between $1400-$1600 a month if possible.

Though we doubt we can find a place with all these features, here is our preference in order of importance:

A safe neighborhood

washer and dryer hookups in the unit

A dishwasher

A gas stove

So we are wondering if any of you have rented in a complex you would recommend or know of any we can check out?

Thank you for your time and help!

I'm doing the same thing (more west, and one more dog) and I've found this to be the very best resource so far...

If both of you work in Orange County, I would suggest you live closer to there. Depending on when you get to work...no, I take that back...the commute south from Long Beach to CM and Irvine during the week is plain bad.

Traffic going north on 405 starts getting heavy at 2 pm (!) and continues that way til late. I've gone down to that area, but taking the 405 S and am always surprised to see the 405 N heavy at 7 pm even.

It's not fun wasting your time on the freeway, especially when there are so many apartments in Orange County. I personally wouldn't even consider Westminster, Huntington Beach, Anaheim (lotsa crime), Rossmoor or anything around these areas, because it's still not close enough and the commute would be bad.

Plenty of apartments in Costa Mesa by the Fairgrounds. I had family renting an apt near there. One of their apts had inside washer/dryer hookups, which is not common. Most places have a dishwasher. There are pockets of CM that are bad (i.e. south of Harbor), but the majority of the city is safe. There's even a dog park near the fairgrounds.

Irvine has tons of apts, but it's a pricier city. You should also look at Tustin and further south.

Orange county is so nice. I love it here. I think the further south you go, the nicer it is (newer communities). As far as rent, I'm not in touch with the current rates. If you haven't asked the OC forum, yet, you should. They'll tell you how expensive and realistic rentals are.

Huntington Beach is the furthest you should live. Even if you're near the 405, that's still s 30-45 minute drive in rush hour.

Why long beach?

Please post in the OC forum unless there is a specific reason you want to live in Long Beach like for example, nightlife, etc.
