So for my thesis I'm looking at representation of Space and Place in Los Santos (From Grand Theft Auto) and how well it captures the same sense of being and place as Los Angeles.

(I cannot thank anyone enough who would help me out by filling out this survey, it literally takes less than two minutes to do and would help so much!

Thanks again!

I think anyone who has ever taken one look at LA would be able to know what's real and what isn't.

Weird survey, since the only three options for ID-ing a place were Beverly Hills, Compton and Santa Monica - three places that technically aren't even in LA!

And a lot of images are clearly from places in LA that are not CPT, BH or SM. Are they just supposed to be proxies for "ghetto LA," "beach LA," and "opulent LA?"

The "Los Angeles" in GTA 5 is a condensed version of LA with a lot of popular/well known landmarks squeezed in to make it seem more recognizable. The game world of GTA 5 is about 10 square miles iirc, but Los Angeles is about 500 square miles so compromises had to be made.
Apparently the goal for the next GTA game set in San Andreas is 100 square miles, but it will probably be an MMO-style game if the game world is that large.
