Hello! I have been exploring the option of moving to Los Angeles next summer and I'm really at a loss of insight. It's really difficult to find the perfect area for me, so I'm reaching out to you all in the hopes that you can enlighten me!

I'm looking for an area with fair rent prices (preferably under $1,000 a month) although I don't really need a lot of space. It definitely has to be somewhere where there are lots of things to do within an hours walking distance because I won't have a car and there needs to be a bus or underground connection because I'll be going to cosmetology school in the downtown area and I'll also be spending a lot of time in WeHo. I know that public transport might not be an option sometimes so I'm prepared to use Ãœber!

Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction!

You should probably just rent a room in WeHo. Craiagslist will point you to potential roommates.

If you're open to living with roommates, there should be a lot of housing options for you. I have been successful at finding roommates on Craigslist in the past, but there are also LA housing Facebook groups that I think would also be really helpful. Don't agree to anything until you see it in person and meet the potential roommate(s) face to face when you get out here.

Since you'll be working in DTLA, I would concentrate your search on DTLA and areas that are easy access to it via MetroLink or Metro or bus. Look on the East Side (DTLA, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Echo Park, Koreatown, West Hollywood). Public transport on the East side is much better than the West, and you'll be working on the East side anyways.

You might be able to find a studio in East Hollywood for 1000 or less. You'll be walking distance to Central Hollywood (HW and Vine), walking distance to Silver Lake and Los Feliz, a 20-30 minute bus ride to Echo Park and West Hollywood, and a 20 minute subway ride to Koreatown and Downtown LA.

what are the relatively inexpensive but walkable neughbourhoods where you can do most stuff on foot, close to grocery stores, drugstores, cafés and restaurants etc, but also near transit to other parts of the city such as the CBDs. I heard Korean town is very central and walkable? West Hollywood (expensive I guess).

How big would a studio that size be?

I would go for the Hollywood idea before Riverside. If you can make it work you will be happier there. Not as much to do in Riverside as there is in most other places closer to LA
