Hey all~

I'm planning on moving out of central la with my best friend. We both primarily work from home and she's an artist/writer/creative type and I do retouching and post production work for photographers and we have smaller businesses that are turning in profits that we have on the side. We're both in our early 20s and want to move to Sherman Oaks / Glendale as first choices. My friend's older brother just moved into Glendale and we're trying to find something that's close to him. But if it's Sherman Oaks, we're fine with that too.

We'd be looking for a 2BED/1 - 1.5 - 2BATH for a budget of $1300 - $1400, and somewhere that has air conditioning, all utilities included, and that is okay with cats. I researched quite a bit and found out that these areas are **potentially** good for that based on some threads from city-data, but with today's market I just want to make sure and to also get additional opinions.

We're also wondering what these areas are basically like?

BONUSES -
Artsy / Hipster attractions (like indie movie theaters, museums, art niches)
And WTF parking is like for apartments or small houses (would we need permits?)
Things to know / places to avoid

Thanks!
x

Both Sherman Oaks and Glendale are very nice areas, but each has their own vibe. NoHo Arts District is between the two (Universal / Studio City / Valley Village area) and you'll find a lot of what you're looking for in terms of theatres and indie movies there. There's also an indie film theater in Encino right on Ventura Blvd. Take a Saturday and drive around and check out buildings for rent with signs out front and call to check rents. Or, try the subscription rental service for the best listings. Good luck.

Sherman Oaks vs Glendale are very Apples and Oranges type places in my mind. Both have pricey rentals due to the nearby job Centers. I'd prefer to live in Sherman Oaks because its just closer to the important LA areas to get to.
