You actually got very specific information, down to the names of areas to live and the name of a specific apartment complex. You never said what was wrong with any of them or why they didn't work out for you so far, so how could someone know you needed more info?

You're also looking for (preferably) sub-$700 a month rent on a month-to-month basis and will not live with roommates you don't know - only possibly with coworkers - yet you never stated if you got the job or not, so you don't know your coworkers yet. But hopefully you'll find what you need.

I did say earlier that the previous ones were out of my budget. I don't have the job yet, but if it's offered to me, I'd like to get in contact with my coworkers-to-be immediately to figure something out, if I can't afford a place to myself.

It's nearly impossible though--everything east of the 14 is apparently a ghetto and gets consistently horrible reviews, and everything on the west side would burn a massive hole in my wallet. Something's got to give. The hiring manager for the job is going to have a decision this coming week, so preparation where possible is key.

How about not taking the job if it won't pay enough for you to live the way you want to? It sounds like a no-brainer. Or just move to where you can afford. Most people replying to you could afford not to live in the bad areas and that is why they are disuading you from doing so. But if that is what is within your means, either suck it up, compromiso on your roommate requirements or turn down the job and stay where you're at.

Thanks to all who helped in my search. I was offered the job and accepted it, and have found a living situation that will be plenty suitable. I will be driving down this weekend and starting work next Monday. Antelope Valley, here I come!

Used to be a quiet desert redneck town where nothing really went on, gentrification has turned that place along with parts of the IE into Compton del Norte if you get me.

Stay as west as possible or rent a room if you can't find anything in your price range. This is SoCal and even the hood is expensive.

Outside of inner "gentrified" areas and in the suburbs the rule is, the newer the neighborhood the safer it is.
