Hi everyone I am finding an area in Long Beach. I love the houses and they are affordable. I am too hurt to drive there right now & I am hoping to get an idea on whether its a decent area or not. east of lakewood and south of paramount neighborhoods. Not great directions i know but i am trying SO around sherer park and north. Thanks everyone who can help me!

The more east and south you go generally the better in LB.....

If the neighborhood is around Sherer Park, that is in the Bixby Knolls area, which is actually nice with some great older homes. It is not bad, but it is surrounded by less nice areas that you have to drive through to get to it. Within that area I'd try to stay east of Atlantic and south of Carson. I agree that more east and south in Long Beach are generally better areas.

Lakewood generally is a solid choice. I'd probably avoid Paramount. I know that a long time ago Paramount was sketchy, I hear they are trying to clean it up a bit, but I think south or east LB is a better choice along with Lakewood.

I've lived in and around these areas most my life.

It's sometimes hard to recommend one area over another area because people have differing ideas of what is considered a bad area, unless it's really obvious it can be pretty subjective.

Take my Paramount opinion, some may think it's fine, others might not.....

YMMV

Agreed. The further south and east you go the better. You dont want to cross over the 710...or you'll be in COMPTON! Grant it, parts of Compton does seem to have large homes. I know a lady who bought a fantastic home that she remodeled in the heart of Compton....but ummm.....I wouldn't want to live in Compton and I wouldn't advise anyone to.

Also, I know it sounds silly, but if your search does spill over into Long Beach, avoid fruit streets...(i.e. Cherry). Signal Hill can be nice also.

Good luck.
