It is pretty clear your parents taught you plenty of garbage....
I don't believe in fairy tales either.

How can anyone believe that a student who supposedly lives in Simi Valley drives to Lake Forest to go to church on Sundays?

I have been going to saddleback since I was a child, it is a very large church and I go with my parents. It is a very famous mega church.

I wake up early, drive to San Dimas and park my car at parents, they drive the rest of the way,

I grew up in Florida. There are several people I went to high school with who now live in California, so there are a lot more of us here than you think there are.

I couldn't move back to Florida now for a lot of reasons, but one of them is "It's too humid." I also don't miss the bugs and the snakes.

Hollywood has always been seedy. Truthfully I can only speak of the last 35 years. Maybe once it was glamourous. I worked at the cross streets Sunset/Gower for quite a few years. Back in the 1980's, it was just porn theaters, paraphernalia shops (porn related) one great pizza place that sold amazing slices at their window, and then "Mann's," which it had been recently renamed, "Chinese Theater."

No "Graumans" Chinese Theater, which it was called when built in 1927. To see it become part of a national chain was no biggie, but I thought maybe they could have still used the name? Interestingly enough, and I only became aware of this fact five minutes ago on Wikipedia, the theater is now called "TCL" and is actually owned by the Chinese. The "China," Chinese. That seems at first glance, to be really flipping disturbing.

I have always felt bad for tourists who I met in my line of work who were very excited to see "Hollywood." Probably, the tour buses took them on a route or distracted them by outing all of the celebrities' home addresses and maybe they went home dutifully impressed.

Do I find it strange that Los Angeles never cared about redevelopment in Hollywood? Yes. But, gentrification is another thing as I think was pointed out before this thread became about Saddleback Church, which is wonderful but really doesn't seem to belong in this thread. I just thought that I'd point out that having lived and worked and gone to college in the LA area, the Valley, the OC, the original gated community that the very first "New Housewives" (of Orange Country) was based on (what a joke and so very ironic) and lastly, just up the fwy a bit from Echo Park that Echo Park and Silverlake used to be considered pretty ghetto. God bless the "gentrifiers," although having not lived in the area for some time and watching "Shameless" this season, I reserve the right to be corrected.

Especially since Saddleback holds services in Hollywood, which is closer to Simi than Lake Forest is.

Another point that can't be overlooked is that Hollywood is also home to a huge number of new Armenian and Thai residents. Many of these recent immigrants work in low-wage service jobs, so that affects upward mobility and quality of life in this area. For those who aren't native Angelenos, Koreatown was very much like Hollywood 20 and 30 yrs ago before the subsequent generation of immigrant's children came of age.

And also, neighborhood associations in Hollywood have been fighting developers tooth & nail over growth & re-urbanization of the main boulevards, especially the revision of the Hollywood Community Plan to allow huge sprawling apartment/shopping complexes.

I think it's crazy there is such an anti development mentality in this city. The development usually happens anyways but it " scaled " down version which comes years later . I keep hearing about developments that are just now getting built after BIG years long delays .

In the valley I'm seeing a lot of building going on but more smaller stuff like newer strip malls nothing exciting but it's nice to see some new construction.

I see in Noho arts there's a big luxury apartment building being built I think some 150 units or so . I think it would be good to have more Condo projects so people could own in the area . Owners tend to care about an area and feel more invested than renters . Of course renters can feel that way about their area too but owning is a bigger commitment in many ways .

I know there is demand for new construction , but it seems city of LA likely makes it easier to build apartment buildings versus condos or townhomes.

Anything close to rail and transit should be high density

Yeah, I am curious where in Florida you lived. The bugs are definitely bad but in all my many trips to Florida (Miami, the Keys, the Gulf, etc.) I have not seen any snakes (luckily). Care to elaborate on this?
