Thanks for making so many assumptions based off a single statement I made. I just don't find it to be a good burger. Better than McDonald's? Yes, but that's about it. Of course I approach In-N-Out with an open mind, but it's all about preference.

Sure, it's more expensive but who cares. I have L.A. friends living in NYC who are always moaning on about In-N-Out and wanting it to move there. I will never understand why when they have Shake Shack. That's the first thing I eat whenever I travel to NYC!
Where do you live? Like, in real life?

I can picture the menu now:

New York-style Birria served with "Rooster's Beak" (using California tomatoes that were shipped to the East Coast and to insure semi-freshness), and homemade tortillas made with East River water. Yummers.

In-N-Out is not an upscale burger. Its competition is McDonald's. I think of Shake Shack as being more in line with The Habit with fancier ingredients. What makes In-N-Out a bad burger?

It's not a fast food burger...but Umami burger is a fancy type burger place I wasn't that impressed with especially considering all the hype.
It's not bad, but just don't seem to be worth the money. They are experts at marketing for sure though. I probably saw 100 articles hyping it up and talking about how amazing it is.

Started in L.A have expanded to NYC and other cities too.

For a couple bucks, it's not bad. But the meat is just way too greasy and I don't think the ingredients are as good of a quality as they like to claim. The fries also suck, only animal style makes them good. The reason many people prefer Shake Shack is due to the quality of the meat, not to mention the Shack Sauce.

Looks like McDonald's is trying to turn things around...will be interesting to see.. I won't believe it until I see them serving fries that aren't cold at my local McD's.

McDonald's to develop new turnaround plan as sales fall again | Reuters

One of their big ideas is serving all day breakfast .

One thing to note, though, is that the American Shake Shacks outside of NYC don't actually make that much money compared to the ones in NYC. Their NYC locations account for 70 percent of their US business, and in NYC...1 Shack does the sales numbers of 4 McDonald's.

French fries are potatoes deep fried in oil. Add salt to taste. The end.

In n Out cuts potatoes on site and cooks them in vegetable oil. What's your theory as how this restaurant mangles this highly convoluted process such that their end-product "sucks"?
