question: the new LA football proposal in Carson looks like it has a good chance of being built. it's supposed to be for two teams, the Raiders and Chargers.

my question is…..whose Raiders and whose Chargers?

I realize it would have to be the Los Angeles Raiders, but I don't think it would be the LA Chargers unless the NFL puts one team into the NFC and keeps the other in the AFC (think of the Seahawks AFC-NFC switch). Of course, doing that would break up a potentially great LA-SD rivalry in the AFC….although a better one would no doubt be LA (NFC) vs. 49ers. I imagine that one could be an absolute bloodletting if the LA Raiders and the SF 49ers were in the same division.

I think it might have made sense if a stadium had been built in Orange County for it to be the LA Raiders and the SD Chargers, but Carson is in LA County, so I just don't see how a team there could represent San Diego.

any idea of what these teams would be called?

The Chargers would be returning to their original home of Los Angeles when they were the Los Angeles Chargers....

thanks for the replies, guys….but would that mean one of those two teams would have to switch to the NFC? It wouldn't make sense for LA to have two teams in the same division and also there is no way that CBS would be allowed to corner the huge LA market, leaving Fox out in the cold.

How about just the Raiders? I know the Chargers play in a craphole, but taking LA from 0 to 2 teams is much harder to fathom than taking it from 2 to 0.

i would think the very economics of building a stadium for two would be a real plus. and this would be LA's first true NFL stadium….neither the Colliseum or Anaheim Stadium were great places for pro football.

I'm biased here because I am a Chicagoan (and a Bears fan), but I would love to see the NFL put two teams in LA and add one more (AFC) to Chicago, giving NY, LA, Chi two each….and I have no doubt both LA and Chicago could support two teams. (I realize that Chicago will not get that second team, but a guy can dream, can't he?)

Why would the Chargers play in LA and not be called the LA Chargers?
