I had a similar problem in Palms. The driveway for our apartment complex was wide enough for one car, and cars parking on the curb would routinely jut into our driveway, leaving juuust enough room to get in/out, with oncoming traffic going 20-30mph.

I called parking enforcement to ask about red curbs, because I noticed that some bigger apartment complexes seemed to have red curbs surrounding their driveways to limit parking around them. They said something about having an assessor come out to evaluate whether it really is a safety issue or not. The whole thing sounded complicated and it was a temporary place so I didn't pursue it. But maybe something for you to consider. Good luck

One thing this thread reminds of to prepare me for my move to CA is to focus on apartments that have assigned parking. This street parking stuff brings me nightmares from living in NYC. I don't want to do that again.

But of course the OP's problem is even if an apartment offers two parking spaces there are four cars owned by the people who live in them with overflow going into residential areas and not commercial parking lots.

There use to be a traffic problem similar to yours in Glendale.
A few of the residents couldn't see on coming traffic when backing out of their driveway.
What they did is install mirrors on a post, on either side of their driveway, that allowed them to see traffic before they entered the street.
If I recal, these mirrors were about a foot or so round, and they worked very well.
Bob.

was going to suggest the same but make sure the mirror is focused to hit some combustible object inside the car parked nearest the driveway

Lightbulb!
Just paint the curbs around your driveway red in the middle of the night. Just paint 1 car's worth of each side red.

LOL! That won't fly with the city, in fact, OP may be fined big time for doing that.

I'm enjoying the ideas assembled by this gathering of acolytes of urban evil.

Creating a small buffer space to help visibility isn't a bad idea. Instead of doing midnight vigilante red paint which is clearly illegal, maybe simply encourage the formation of deep pot holes for a similar buffer area. It won't stop everyone but could at least help part of the time.

Since pot holes usually take a long time to fix in LA, there could be a good return on this project investment.

Other than that, I think the mirrors solution offered by CALGUY is OP's best bet in terms of ease and time for solution implementation.

I agree. I've seen community efforts near us that have resulted in signs either forbidding parking completely or for restricted parking, as well as curbs painted red. Good luck. It sounds awful having to back out like that with zero visibility.
