I'm not familiar with LA, but that could be the area. The house in the movie had what used to be a horse stable, a small water pond, etc.

If anyone has the opportunity, check out "Los Angeles Plays Itself." It's a documentary about the way LA has been portrayed in the movies over the decades -- everything from sci-fi to film noir to comedies, and more. One thing that's interesting: movie villains very frequently live in extremely modern, architecturally interesting buildings, while heroes live in more mundane places. Overall it's a fascinating documentary, but it's also hard to find. Because the film maker, a Cal Arts professor, didn't get the proper clearances, it's not available on DVD. You can only see it when he shows it in person, which he does at various theaters from time to time. Keep an eye out!

Default Not so fast

Not so fast - how could posters here overlook "Blade Runner"?

Deckard's (Harrison Ford) crib is pretty darn cool.

I've visited many of the locations in this film. My late wife worked on crew shoots and I got to do my share of location gawking and wrap parties.

BTW - "Chinatown" is one of my very favorite films (in top 25 easy). If you want to see a real gem of a film with director Polanski (who directed "Chinatown", and who was the thug that slit Jack's nose), check out "Knife in the Water". My biggest gripe with the majority of American movie consumers is that they watch far too few foreign films.

That's interesting about houses. The villain in "Willard" lived in a large mid-century modern home (which was the newest thing at the time the film was made). The protagonist (who was not quite a hero really) lived in a very large old house which was on the verge of becoming run down.

Crash and Terminator 2 haven't been mentioned.
Duel deserves a mention, although the only bit you see of LA is when Dennis Weaver's leaving in the beginning of the film.

To me, it seems like a large percentage of movies in general would have to be filmed in the Los Angeles area, due to all the movie studios and actors based there.

But maybe someone knows a list of movies which feature a lot of Los Angeles exclusively, rather than just having a scene or two (which I imagine would qualify them to get on the locations list).
