My wife and I are moving to LA and wondering where we should live. I'll be working in santa monica and she will work in westwood. Looking for 2000sqft+ house and 45 min commute or less. Our combined income will be around 215k per year.

Your incomes are healthy, but your space requirement is not, even at the price range your income would put you in. Large homes within relative proximity of the westside are quite expensive. Your best bet would be Sherman oaks or encino, but the commute will often be over 45 minutes and finding a house if that size may stretch your housing budget.

Yes, we need more information about the housing budget. Healthy income indeed but, doesn't indicated what you can/want to pay.
Without knowing any more, I'd say if looking for something under 1M try Mar Vista.
