Not necessarily. My sister owned a house on Magnolia several blocks north of the PCH (it's the next street over from Daisy), and it was a charming safe area! There's a lovely boulevard that they decorate for the holidays and actually have a holiday parade! Very quiet, friendly and clean. NOw, if you go a few blocks, it gets seedier, but that entire area has been on the way up in the past few years. My sister bought her place for $150k and sold it 2 years later for close to $400k. That's not a neighborhood in decline.

As in any big city, the same street can be lousy in one area and classy in others. That's definitely the case in Long Beach. Best bet is to drive through and check it out.

Good luck!

I lived in the Archstone Apartments in that area. I felt safe, but I didn't keep late hours however. There was an incident where a fellow resident's motorcycle was stolen from the enclosed, gated to the ceiling, remote control, automobile area and I'm not sure if the case was solved.

However, it is an area on the upswing. In the early 90s, the Long Beach mall was located there and the crime was so bad that the police patrolled the mall in uniform!
Things are different now.
