^^Frankly, my dear scarlet nobody gives a damn.

The thread is about where celebrities live not about film or tv production....

Actually, it's not. Just because there's there is production filming in Atlanta doesn't meant the entire industry is there, too. "Hollywood" is composed of more than just filming something.

Hollywood is mostly transplanted Jewish and Italian NYers anyway, Hollywood stars are transplants from all over world but a large majority of the exec, directors and such are Jewish transplants. I would say LA is the movie industry's hub base but a lot of stars do live in NYC and Atlanta now.

C'mon now.
NYC has far more high end home sales than LA. So yes, wealthy people seem to far prefer it.

Listings of homes priced $10 million and above

Manhattan: 612
The Hamptons: 253
Miami-Dade: 239
Los Angeles County: 177

To answer the question,

No, stars didn't abandon Los Angeles. The world is different these days. You don't need to physically be in one place in this technologically advanced world. You can Skype your agents. You only shoot a movie or two in one year. According to Wealth-X, the average ultra high net worth individual has 3 homes. Why stay in Los Angeles year round when you can also have houses in New York, South of France, etc. People simply move around a lot more these days. It's a more fun and interesting way to live.

Not when you have a family.

Most of the mega celebs do home-school/private tutors, so it's doable. In terms of regular schooling, Lycée Francios is a popular school amongst celebs because they have schools in LA/New York/Paris/London. A lot of celebrities move their kids and they simply pick up where they left off in the last city. Hey..it's 'Hollyweird' and they're a very eccentric group of people.

With that argument you could say it is in New Mexico now, too. While the studios are cool and all, NM and Georgia are cheaper states to do business in. Until I see the whole network and a mass of stars making Santa Fe or Atlanta their primary residence for work, I wouldn't think too much into it.

What is your source?

Listings are a misleading barometer. Actual closed transactions are what count the most. I can list my house for "X" but if the market says it is really worth Y, than Y it is.

Also, the current building booms in Manhattan and Miami are certainly pushing up the number of high-end listings in those markets. Inventories in all of LA County but esp. the high end areas have been low by comparison.

Coldwell Banker's "Luxury Market Report, Spring 2015" gives the following for actual sales transactions for homes of $10 million or more in 2014 by city:

1. New York: 56
2. Beverly Hills: 35
3. Miami Beach: 26
4. Los Angeles: 26
5. Aspen: 25
6. Greenwich: 15
7. Malibu: 14
8. Atherton: 12
9. Naples: 12
10. Santa Barbara: 10
11. Palm Beach: 10
12. Pacific Palisades*: 7 (*Really part of city of LA but they broke it out separately)
