LA's trains and stations are perfectly clean. I think some people are just against public transit in an area like LA.

That's going to be hard to do on the street level stations unfortunately.

They do now, other than in places it would be impossible to implement, like open outdoor LRT stations. That is no different than any other city with that kind of station.

I took the redline today , the most interesting thing was a guy that announced to the whole rail car that he had Jack Daniels whiskey for sale for $10 a bottle . He said that "he doesn't have a sick cat that needs medical attention or any of that crap, but that he has the solution to their problems with his whiskey" Not sure what his deal was , but he claimed that his rent is $2300 a month , and that he doesn't drink much himself and "hates to sell the stuff" but he's gotta do this to sell money. Not sure how he got the liquor, but I think I heard him say something about someones bar that closed down.

He got kind of upset/disappointed that nobody was buying and said "Yeah right , like none of you people drink"

He said something about his drug of choice, but I didn't hear what he said. He was talking to another guy something about crystal (meth) and hookers.

There was an older couple from Ventura that were taking their first adventure on the redline ...I knew this because they had announced it to several people and were asking for help. The guy selling the Jack Daniels started up a conversation with them. I guess they were teachers and he said that it's terrible how educators are treated, etc .

There's really nowhere else where one can see such organic craziness.

I also took the bus back from the Redline station to around my house...the bus seemed cleaner than I expected..it was nice since there weren't too many people on it.

One guy was talking to another guy about how he more recently became homeless, pretty sad. He said that he meets people and sometimes they let him stay at their place or use shower, etc.

I went to Grand Central Market, hadn't been there since all the changes and there are a ton of new places. The place was packed...especially Egg ****.

I went here:
Tacos Tumbras a Tomas - Mexican - Downtown - Los Angeles, CA - Reviews - Photos - Yelp

Grand Central Market is open until 9pm now Thurs-Sat ,
They have games too like Scrabble, Uno , etc
Grand Central Market | Events | Game Night at Grand Central Market
Seems like it could be fun to do sometime.

The big problem is that mass transit isn't a necessity for the majority of people in LA. I used to live a block from the gold line in Pasadena and I could still get into DTLA faster in my car. If it were faster for me to take the gold line I would have taken it.

People still took the subways in New York when they looked like this. Convenience will beat cool any day of the week.

That pic is from the 70s when New York was close to bankruptcy. Forunately the trains look like this today:

Agreed on your point of convenience, which is the #1 thing people look for in public transit.

The article does little to "debunk the myth that LA's public transportation is dirty and scary." It simply tries to point out the positives of public transportation. Bottom line is that the average person doesn't want to ride alongside the human filth shown in the Yelp link in post #9.

The average Metro patron earns under $20K a year according to their own research, so what do you expect their patrons to look like?

Well, I don't think that income per year has to translate into being disrespectful , a thug, etc.

Also I think many people would be surprised to realize how much some people actually spend to get the "thug" or "street" look.

Some people spend more on that type of clothing versus actually buying a nice looking suit.

Does anyone know when LAX will have a rail station? Here in Dallas the DART Orange Line goes straight to Terminal A at DFW and Skylink gets you to all the other terminals...it is SO great and convenient. LAX demands the same convenience...20 years ago! I do know that LA Metro is not going to extend the Green Line to the airport the way they should have in the first place. However, I have heard that another line is supposed to connect directly to LAX. Is this true?? That would be great for ridership and exposure!
