Have you encountered a man living in a van down by the river?

When I first visited LA in 2004, I was very curious in seeing so many large vans and 70s/80s small RVs parked about the city. It's a step above skid row because at least the homeless person owns the vehicle. But based on the amount of bird droppings and litter around some of the vans, it looks like they didn't move often. I can't imagine living like that, but again, it's better than actually being on the sidewalks.

It varies. In my area, Culver City is pretty good about checking on them & either ticketing or asking the occupants to move on. In an unincorporated area of L.A. County up the street, I drive by RVs that have been parked in the same spot for months, with trash cans and bicycles sitting on the sidewalk next to them.

Default Homelessness Solutions

If every American submitted their saliva to a lab repeatedly over the course of their lives their own individual reputation would be more important. Fail the test(s) and receive free care from doctors and psychologists along with group therapy. Failure results in a 10 year sentence in a community service based prison. Third strikers go back to said prison for life. The services these prisons will provide will save the economy a substantial amount or money and develop a sense of skill among the inmates who can train where needed. As for myself-I CHOSE the van life and I enjoy its benefits of saving money normally used for rent/real estate. I find it easier to park my fully paid for, fully self contained and fully mechanically and legally maintained van in descent cities to rest body and good intending soul. And there to go.

No van parking on the streets of my city. There's a no parking ordinance on streets between the hours of 2 and 4 AM. Fifty dollar fine for violations.
