This is a 3-yr-old thread. OP did move to Seattle, and found rents to be pretty much the same as the rents s/he was complaining about in LA. And unlike LA, the rents in Seattle are far from stable, so they're always going up. OP has faced the possibility of having to move outside the city limits, to cheaper areas. OP has described his/her apt. as having non-functioning plumbing, and other problems, but puts up with it to avoid even higher rent. The topic is ironic, considering how things have worked out for the OP.

'Mutt wasn't talking about South Lake Union. If you knew Seattle at all, you'd know that. The only reason your rent is lower than the norm for Seattle, is that you live in the extreme north end, where rents are a bit cheaper, and you're in an old building that you've said on the Seattle forum the LL doesn't bother to repair. As you well know, Seattle rents are rising faster than anywhere on the West Coast or in the US as a whole.

Our rents are stable??? If your defining stable as constantly rising ok. I'll have to tell my friend who's rent goes up 100.00 a year and now pays 1800,00 for a 1 bdrm good thing it's stable

Our rents are the furthest thing from stable. My previous 2 br house rental that was $2000 4 years ago now rents for $2800.

Compared to Seattle and the Bay Area (aside from rent-controlled units, but LL's are getting around those, even), LA rents aren't so bad, but ok--an $800 jump in one year is on a par with those other urban areas, no argument.

She’s from California. Imo have at it. I have no interest in moving to Portland. She moved twice already due to rents going up
