BTW, fair notice to you SUV drivers: Those of us who drive cars are going to slow down for high water, so back off.

Thus far the pattern is more like La Nina.

Very good rain in the Pac NW, OK rain in NorCal ... SoCal? .... meh ...

We'll see if anything resembling a classic "wet" El Nino actually kicks in.

BTW - not all El Nino instances actually result in above-normal precip for the given water year.

Case in point - the El Nino mid last decade. A complete squib ... in fact, those were drought years!

Well, in a wet El Nino year, the biggest storms don't occur until January.

There was no El Nino in the last decade. The last one was 1997-'98. However, Los Angeles did receive well over 30 inches of rain during the 2004-'05 season.

Remember in '97 there was a chance a hurricane was going to make landfall in Los Angeles? That was some crazy **** back then.

Actually, KTLA reported that we, SoCal, are already above average and El Nino is just getting started. Two days ago it rained, albeit not heavily, but continuously, for well over 24 hours. I can assure you that that event alone was a lot of water for a pretty arid region. It is still very muddy in many places.

That isn't true at all. There have been 4 El Niños since 97/98. You're thinking of strong El Niños. Actually the 04/05 season was an El Niño year. Just an anomalous one since it was only of weak strength, yet LA had its second wetter year on record.

Yes, I should have specified "strong" El Nino.

It should be interesting. I do have a rain gauge and will post the measured rain in this thread.
