3rd and fairfax is a great area, and there's a nice park nearby as well.

$2500 for a nice 2br is going to be tough in SM. All of SM is safe, but not all of it is particularly nice. $2500 in SM gets you a 2br in an older building in the pico neighborhood. Its safe, but there are a lot of homeless (the American euphemism for rough sleepers) around and its not a pleasant place to walk around.

I think the area around 3rd and fairfax would be ideal. I would bet you can get a nice newer apartment within your budget. MUCH better restaurants around there as well.

2br near 3rd St Promenade will be minimum $3k, more likely $4k. $2500 gets you Pico neighborhood.

so it would appear that SM is out of our budget 2.5k for 2 bed looking for another great area have considered most of the usual ones. Does anyone out there have an off the wall suggestion for an area that we haven't considered.

anything nice in venice is likely to be as much if not more than SM. the OP needs to either dial back expectations or look at areas away from the beach.

The Grove area would be away from the beach BUT the area surrounding the Grove is very nice. If you don't mind the homeless, then live in Santa Monica. If you do mind, then go for the Grove.

Look for apt around 3rd and Fairfax.

Best of luck!
