Hello!
I am planning to move from the Midwest to the LA area. I am a well seasoned hair stylist. I have friends who reside in the Long Beach area, but am looking to possibly move more towards the Culver City area and maybe work in the West Hollywood area. My concerns are I have seen some of the pricing of what salons charge in the Long Beach area, which can be anything from same here in the Midwest to a little bit above double. Wondering if there are any other stylist out there who may have experience or advice on whether I can make enough working in a salon in the greater LA area.

When you say "hair stylist," do you have a full cosmetology license? Some states like Ohio have separate cosmetology and hair stylist licenses, and CA won't do reciprocity for the hair stylist license.

Yes, I have a cosmetology license (1500 hrs) and a cosmetology instructor license.( additional 1000 hours ) . In the state of Illinois, we have cosmetology licenses and a separate license for those who teach cosmetology. I have obtained both. I have done some "homework" on California realize they do not offer a teaching license and realize they do not offer a teaching license and I have also checked with CA state and they said I had enough hours it will be an easy transfer. In the state of Illinois, hair, nails, facials, etc. all fall under the same cosmetology license.
