I am trying to find a hotel with monthly rates either in Hollywood, Westwood, or any other decent areas of LA close to things to do.
Also, any housing that is not as picky with credit history. Thanks.

Jake, I've been following your saga of moving here. I just wish I could be more helpful. The only hotels with monthly rates are the same ones that charge over $150 a night, so I doubt that would work for you unless you're independently wealthy. And if that were the case, you wouldn't have to worry about a credit check!

I think your best bet is to drive around when you get here, and see if there are any hotels in the areas you mentioned that might give you a special rate.

I'm not in L.A., so I don't know how good (or not good) this place may be, but it offers "European-style" rooms on, it looks like, a monthly basis --> The Cecil Hotel

I live Downtown in the City West section (west of the Harbor Fwy). Walk to Many restaurants, shops, subway, buses. I LOVE IT!! Don't need my car any more.
There are many affordable Monthly Hotels that are nice. It is an exciting urban lifestyle and people are really moving in and it's becoming THE PLACE. Downtown is very exciting and enjoying a dramatic rebirth.
Also, to demonstrate about affordability, I live on disability/SSI and still live fairly comfortably.
See Downtown News for ads and LA weekly. Also the Downtown phone book. Don't get stuck with that weekly rate thing, it's too much.

Isn't that that nasty place that was just in the LA Times....like skid row nasty? I ran into the same problem moving out here.....there is a place in Calabasas, but I don't remember the name.....I found it on west side rentals. But, they were booked so we didn't use them. Luckily we found an apartment lightening fast. There are hostels here, do a search....you might have better luck that way. Especially if you don't already have a job.

I'm moving in July, and my friends and I already reseved at Oakwood furnished apartments Toluca Hills. It's a very decent area, imo, and for a one bedroom apartment with all furniture, parking, cable, utilities, and wireless internet, we're paying $2,950 including all taxes and fees (for 30 days). I hope this helps, and I hope you'll be having a roommate :-)

The place just decided to start a "renovation" and is now not accepting new residents until May.
