I am in the process of moving to Southern California. Looking for a temp place to stay while I interview and really explore neighborhoods. I have been to LA a few times, but have not discovered every location such as Orange County (whole different animal).

Since most tech jobs are located in SM, DTLA and Pasadena, a local friend suggested looking into N Hollywood, Koreatown, DTLA as a good middle ground. Since I will have no job (plenty saved up) and no car, looking for affordable location with ok access to public transport. No amenities needed.

Looking on Craigslist brings up tons of ads that are too good to be true. How much is the average rental? Hard to really tell on CL since many ads are fake. What I am really looking for is a room in a 2-4 bedroom for a month. Airbnb killed short term sublets since it has now turned everyone into a wannabe hotel.

We don't have good public transportation around here. At least not as good as other big cities. I wouldn't suggest moving until you have a job offer in hand and a vehicle to get around. Tech jobs can be all over the area. DTLA is big but so is Irvine & Santa Monica.

Thanks for the advice, but my question was regarding average rental price (with some background thrown in).

What price is "too good to be true" ? I can't even find many short term rentals in Koreatown on CL but a room in an apartment looks to be about $750. The trick is finding someone who isn't on Airbnb who wants a month long roommate.

Here is one: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...166350060.html

Perhaps the rent is weekly. Even then, the photos are just too nice.

Airbnb is a problem. Instead of splitting the rent, everyone now uses Airbnb as a way to make money. I might have to do two months, but that would be hard to find furnished. Just need a temp place. I fully intend to get a nice place and a car once I get a job.

^^The add says the place is located in the Hollywood Hills but if you look at the map, it shows the location to be Westlake/MacArthur Park. Two very different locations. And yes, 475 per month for a one bedroom condo is too good to be true.

I am all for public transit.....but I hope you have enough money saved to use zip car or something so you can make it to interviews on time. The tech jobs are spread out all over the place. Much easier to get to interviews in a variety of locations with a car....

Look under the temp/sublet option. Found this furnished studio which is $1,650 per month. This is a legit add.
