There's quite a few spots downtown where this style space can be bought for ~$500k. Especially if you can do without interior walls.

So much more affordable, right?

Eh, but then you would have to live very close to other people and deal with their shenanigans... noise, trash, pests, pets, drama, etc.

I just bought a condo in Santa Monica last April, but I was looking at these downtown lofts. My price range was $450k - $600k and found a few that were gorgeous, in very walkable areas.

The problem with all of them, is the HOA fees are outrageous. Some are an extra $700 - $900 a month for just the HOA... I couldn't justify it.

But they probably included property taxes in the HOA.
