After seeing the "Los Angeles Based Movies" thread, I thought I would start this one. What are some of your favorite TV shows that are based on/in LA?
Here are a couple of mine:
Diagnosis Murder.

Charles, once again you have outdone us all. I remember all of those shows except for the monkees (even though I was a teenie tiny kid). I wasnt alive yet when Ben Casey was on but I do remember that show.

I had one of those "Ratatoulle" moments reading your post. Fred G. Sanford from Watts. Great.

I liked watching Matlock when it was out. I am a Randy Travis fan and he was on the show from time to time. It was also filmed around here, LA and Ventura County. Melrose Plase was filmed in the Oxnard area where I live and in parts of LA. My brother hung out when they filmed at Oxnard Shores beach. He ended up becoming friends with a lot of the cast and crew. One evening they invited him over when they were having lunch, or dinner since it was really around 5pm. Here is my brother having lunch with Heather Locklear and the remainder of the cast. A new actor on the show that had never watched the show was asking each of the cast members what part they played. He asked my brother the same question, to which he replied, I am just a fan that hangs out here in the neighborhood. We still think it is funny.

Some shows that you may not know of are "Mike Hammer Private eye" starring Stacey Keich, "High Tide" with Rick Springfield, "Air America". I worked on the set of those shows. They were not network shows but what is called first run syndication. All were filmed in Ventura at the old Mills school that became Santa Ventura Studios for a few years. That place turned into Brooks Film School now.

Beverly Hills 90210 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer were both filmed at my high school in Torrance (suburb of LA). Scenes from Melrose Place were filmed in my old office building in Mid-Wilshire, probably because it was such a beautiful building and also because it was the home of Aaron Spelling's production company. We had many Heather Locklear filming sightings for awhile there.

Really, for many many years almost all tv shows were set in LA. It has only been in recent years that so many have been set in other cities, starting most notably in New York and then moving outward to Boston and beyond.
