Hmm, first time apartment applier here. So the online application wants me to list how many people are going to be living with me. It also requires their name, but I haven't found a roommate yet.

What do people do in this situation? I'm a bit lost right now

But I wanted to get the apartment before someone else does. I don't know how long it'll take to find a roommate, so that's why I was asking. Usually isn't that what most people do?

If you are going to rent it on your own, then you will need to prove that you can afford the rent on your own with proof of employment that shows you have enough income etc.

If you are going to rent with a roommate, most landlords will require everyone that is living in the unit to be on the lease therefore you will need the roommate first

If you can't afford the place and don't have a roommate, why don't you just look for people looking for a roommate/renting a room?

In addition, if you can afford it on your own, but will have a roommate eventually anyway, most landlords will just tell you to add the roommate when s/he arrives.

Move into someone else's place. Find someone seeking a roommate.

TS, go rent the apartment on your own first. Then later when you find the roommate add that person onto the lease.

You usually need 2.5-3.0 x the rent in gross income. You should do 1 of 2 things:

1. Seek out a roommate now and then look for a place together

2. Seek out someone seeking a roommate now.

I recommend 2.
