My wife and I are moving from NYC to LA possibly in July 2016. I've been searching a lot of sites for rentals and have noticed that there really aren't a tonne of dog friendly apartments. I found the same issue in NYC but i heard you can talk your way into letting your pet stay with you. Is this the case in LA too?

Another point I should add is that we have a pit bull mix. She is the sweetest dog but unfortunately the breed gets a bad name.

Any advice from someone renting in LA with a dog would be much appreciated!

My friend's apartment complex allows for tenants to have dogs. She lives in Burbank, I'll ask her for the name.

I have known some of the sweetest pit bulls you've ever seen. That being said, you will have a very hard time finding an apartment with one. Landlords are held to the same "you should have known" standard as the dog owners and so their liability is VERY high. Most don't want to take the chance when they have 5 other people to fill the vacancy. It's sad, but true.

The problem with pit bulls is many landlord insurance policies will not cover them. None of mine will. I will not rent to anyone with any condition not covered by my policies. I am sure other landlords will feel the same way.

btw, I have had tenants offer to insure their dog or sign waivers. Neither is suitable. Sorry.
