Who cares where you were born? Having pride in the place you were born just because you were born there makes about as much sense as taking pride in the gum you happened to step on whilst walking down the street. My hometown was about as awesome as stepping in gum.

Yes I could relate to some of these, started school in the nineties. I was still too young for school during the 1992 riots and was in first grade during the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Folks and older sister went to Chasen's in the 80's but I never went, but ditto on Hamburger Hamlet. I remember that Spielberg restaurant in Century City but oddly we never ate there at all.

The article is very Westside centric. How many 90s kids were eating at Chasens?

More 90s stuff:

Kate Hutton (the earthquake lady from Cal-Tech)
Big Boy in the afternoon
KNAC and Pirate Radio (for the metalheads)
The last El Nino
Wherehouse Records, Sav-On, Lucky's Supermarket
Mid-90s Lake Show (Van Excel, Jones, Ceballos, Divac, Peeler, etc)
1994 World Cup (I went to USA vs Columbia)
Cholo fashion (Raiders/Kings jerseys, Ben Davis jeans, etc)

Clearly YOU care where YOU were born, since you admitted you wish you had grown up in Los Angeles.

Why do you wish you had grown up here? I'd really like to know.

ed debevics was an amazing place idk what anybody says and hamburber hamlet was gross. UCLA arcade was super dope when i was a kid (is it still around?). All I remember about the dive in century city is that they had really chewy calamari. Even though i primarly grew up in mid city & south LA I basically hung out exclusively on the westside, so this piece pretty accurate.

Okay. I figured you were going to say that. My thing is, how are you certain your childhood would have been better had you grown up here in Los Angeles? I was born and raised in Los Angeles and had a wonderful childhood, but just because I did doesn't mean all of the other Angelenos did as well.

I don't want to sound rude, but I just don't see how one could automatically believe their childhood would have been better had they been born elsewhere.

The town I grew up in was on a perpetual decline, becoming worse all the time.
