work in Norwalk. where should i live (Downey, Cerritos: apartments, to rent)

i will be moving to the area from Chicago to work at the State hospital in Norwalk. I am 30 years old and heard that Norwalk is a pretty rough area. what other decent areas are of commutable distance and how much should I budget for a two bedroom place.

norwalk has some good and bad areas.. i would look at downey, eastern lakewood, cypress, buena park(north western area), la palma, la mirada, santa fe springs(which can be as rough as norwalk), artesia, and bellflower(can have rough areas)

any of those areas should put you within a 20minute commute over surface streets

rent, not sure.. im very familiar with the lakewood/cypress/la palma and rents for a 2 bed will put you from 1100 to 1400. i imagine that most of the other areas are similar.

cerritos doesnt have too many apartments, and housing will be very expensive to rent.. more than 2500/mo, but would probably be the best area of the bunch.

are you bringing a family? single? just a wife? pets?

I vote for the good side of Downey. Keep your commute short and you'll be happier.

well, i would say looking at downey, lakewood, artesia, cypress(less so), and buena park would be the best place to look for affordable houses to rent.

rossmoor and cerritos are more upscale and will have more expensive housing to rent

My dad's girlfriend lives in Norwalk off of Rosecrans and the I-5, it's not a bad area at all.

Good schools and parks, but you're going to have to deal with the large Filipino community (pro/con depending on how you view them).

But for the most part it's a clean, quiet place....however, West of the I-5 is a different story!

I'd lean toward Cerritos or Artesia.
