Hey guys,
I'm moving back to LA from NY for a job. I'm interviewing for jobs around Chino and Ontario, but wanted to live closer to LA.
I'm in my late 20's, single, and a have a dog, and will probably be making around 150k give or take if that helps filter it down. I'm not a big party animal, but would still like to have some night life (i.e bars and restaurants and not just a quiet suburbia).

I'm not too excited about returning to LA traffic so ideally I would want to not spend a third of my life commuting. Given all this, what would be a good area to look to live in with a do-able commute in Los Angeles? Or should I just live in the IE, which I don't know anything about.

Thanks for the help

Pasadena is really your only option for a semi-doable commute and you'd still be spending 45-60 minutes each way most days.
I lived in Chino Hills and worked in Ontario in my late 20's. The IE is definitely not great for nightlife. The problem for you is that after working hard and commuting all week you probably will just want to sleep on the weekends.

you may also consider a city like fullerton. while fullerton is a college town, it also caters to a post grad crowd as well. nearby brea and anaheim also have plenty of options for food/drinks.

Claremont is in the IE and has lots of restaurants and bars. The IE has definitely gotten better in recent years. I live in the IE and will go to LA for the nightlife on the weekends. Not a bad drive or Metrolink trip. I also recommend living close to work as you don't usually have time for much else during the week.

The Inland Empire has so much potential. House values are soaring in Rancho Cucamonga and Upland. I purchased a house back in 1996 for 200k. I was able to flip it to 800k and sell it 2013. The house is on the foothills and has views similar to Griffith park at night with the lights and spawl. The mountains are literally your backyard.

I remember when my neighborhood was really dry and undeveloped. No sidewalks and it looked like The High Desert Suburbs like in Lancaster/Victorville. Full of dirt lawns and brown everywhere. Today, Now its very green with tall trees with a diverse landscape of plants. That really improved the house values. The Region is becoming more developed and soon you will have to commute from Coachella Valley in Indio if you want the affordable real estate market in Southern California.

Many people are now having to go out to Victorville or Beauemont to get a new house in the $300's. I've noticed a lot of LA transplants in my neighborhood in northern Ontario.

Pasadena gets my vote. Claremont is a nice area but really, really quiet and more oriented for families and the college students who attend one of the Claremont colleges. Not much for a guy/gal in the late 20's stage of life.

Claremont is part of the Pomona Valley....the IE is further east.

Claremont has changed a lot in the last few years. The Village is full of young people on the weekends. It's a lot like a small version of Old Towne Pasadena. And yes it is a mile from the IE.
