In fact, the Kings' attendance stays high even when the team is bad, while the Blackhawks have had the worst attendance in the league when they are down.

Lets see their attendence figures once they are on the decline.

interesting fact, the year the ducks won the stanley cup (2007) the kings still had higher attendance. if i remember, they were particularly awful that year, finishing near the bottom of the division (certainly no where near a playoff spot). looking at attendance figures for the same year, the equally awful blackhawks had the second lowest attendance in the entire league. I wonder the same as you about blackhawks attendance as their dynasty fades (whenever that may be), as they don't have the proven numbers through the ups and downs that the kings have.

The All-Star game is an economic engine whose almost sole purpose is to get out of town folks to come to the host city and spend money.
In other words, facts don't deter you and you don't like Hockey, so no one must care.

I guess I would say that while the Kings have a hardcore fan base as expressed by their attendance, it just doesn't see a high level of popularity in the LA area compared to the northeast and Canada. That being said, the NHL lags the NFL, NBA, and MLB in general popularity.

Or perhaps as Sharks fan, I'm bitter and still reeling from the blown 3-0 lead a couple years ago.

I'm a Kings Fan and I think I read the TV ratings for NHL hockey out west are very low. Hockey is still the distant fourth professional sport in the US. Not that it really matters to me since I enjoy watching the games. I can remember just a few years back when they didn't even televise every Kings game.

except for a blackout of games played in canada a handful of years ago, pretty much all kings games have been televised between one of the fox regional sports channels or nbc sports (or other national sports channel).

There are 18M people in the LA area. You will have enough hockey fans to fill up an 18,000 seat arena.

You mean like the "hockey town" Chicago blackhawks who got out drawn in fan base by their minor league team before they started winning?

Hockey fans are fair weather in general, this is not unique to LA.

Considering LA has zero hockey history and very little hockey culture, they and Anaheim are considerably successful.

This has zero basis in fact. Not a Hawks fan defending them either.
