I know right! High quality Mexican food is LAs specialty. Hands down best mex food in the country.
Now as far as Americanized Mexican food I do have to give the slight edge to New Mexico.

No, it does not. For starters it just isn't there in parts of Los Angeles.

In areas with a lot of Mexicans, it is. Say East LA, South LA, or Downtown. The West side it certainly does not.

Good point. Outside of El Cholo in SM I don't know of any good Mexican food on the west side. Red O is really good but that's fancy gourmet.

Some of the best Mexican restaurants in the city are on the West side. If you can't find good Mexican food on the West side it's because you're walking around with your head up your ass.

I'm sure there are great Mexican places on the Westside but the best? Even some of the best? No.

I've had the most exotic deep southern Mexican food from Oaxaca and Chiapas that resembles nothing of what most American are used to out closer to downtown. I haven't really found anything like that on the Westside. It was so authentic the people sitting next to me were speaking what I thought was a very strange dialect of Spanish but I asked the waiter and he told me that's not Spanish it's Nahaut, an indigenous language. And this was no hole in the wall either, it was a pretty popular spot for Mexicans and Mexican Americans. Rose colored horchata with nuts in it. Wild stuff!
